Madalena was born in Lisbon and moved to London on her own when she was 17 after being offered a scholarship for a degree course in performing arts.
“Falling into musical theatre was a fruit of chance” and a vehicle to stretch her aptitudes for acting, singing and even dancing. At this point in time, Madalena is already an established actress in the West End after performing in such shows as Fame, Chicago, Zorro the Musical and Over the Threshold.
Alongside her theatre work, Madalena has found herself in music and in expressing her life experiences through songs. Both her parents were classically trained musicians but whilst growing up she recalls not having any music around. “I only found rock and folk music in my life very recently. I have so much to catch up!” Her musical influences are very eclectic, from the depths of flamenco and blues voices to the lyrics of Patti Smith, but her biggest musical inspiration is Jeff Buckley, who was also very diverse in his musical taste.
Madalena loves travelling and has been inspired by many people she met along the way. You might find her anywhere in the world playing in dark bars, or with street musicians in an alley, or on stage in front of thousands standing on top of a yellow cab! “There is so much to do yet. I know not what tomorrow will bring…”
